Post Mortem of Failed Banks
More banks have failed in last 18 months than in the preceding 18 years. The FDIC's decision to close down a bank is based on many factors, some which are not in the public domain. While BankRx cannot predict a bank's failure, it is possible to ascertain the 'probability' of failure.

BankRx tracks many criteria that indicate the health of the bank. The 4 key factors are capital, asset quality, asset mix and growth. These micro economic factors are evaluated (with respect to some of the macro economic factors such as the interest rates, volatility of interest rate, term-spread and credit-spread) to yield a composite score of the bank's health.

While examining the statistics of failed banks, it is instructive to pay attention to how the determinant factors changed over a period of time and how they compare to the peer group.  Hopefully we will be able to learn from their mistakes.
